THINGS TO DO IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

We have put various links for you on this page but unfortunately alot of the websites don't have an English translation but they do give an idea about what they can offer and of course the addresses and telephone numbers are on thier sites, in general you will find that the Dutch speak excellent English and enjoy practicing speaking it.

HERE ARE SOME HANDY TIPS

Nothing is far away in Holland so it is easy to make day trips to see whatever it is you want to see, for example Amsterdam, Utrecht, the Hague, Rotterdam and the Keukenhof are all manageable in a day from here.

Zutphen (twinned with Shrewsbury in Shropshire), Deventer, Doesburg, Bronkhorst and Lochem are all attractive places to visit, Arnhem and Apeldoorn are also nearby.

There are of course many wonderful gardens to visit in the area. Bingerden House which hosts The International plant nursery Days is a 40 min. drive from us.

The Tondense Empese Heide (Tonden & Empe heather land) is very close to the B&B/Apartment, see the link underneath.

National Park the Veluwe is a super day out, one has to pay to go in the park but once inside grab a white bike (free) and cycle around, make sure to visit the famous Kröller-müller museum, see the link underneath.

If it is swimming weather then cycle to Busslo, a man made lake with beaches and it is a  lovely bike ride through the woods and coutryside.

If you enjoy going to the Sauna and doing the whole thing then Thermen Bussloo or Bronsbergen will definitely be worth a visit, Bronsbergen is much smaller and more intimate the links are underneath.

If you enjoy playing golf then that is possible at the Engelenburg in Brummen, afterwards why not enjoy a wonderful dinner in the conservatory, it would be handy to make a reservation beforehand, see link underneath.

Bronkhorst, the smallest monumental city in The Netherlands is easy to reach with the ferry from Brummen, it is very pretty but veeeeery busy in the summer.

Hackford castle near Vorden is a beautiful area, very green with sand paths and old farmhouses. There is a nice restaurant in the grounds of Hackford and an enormous and wonderful vegetable garden opposite the restaurant where all the vegies come from. One of my more favorite places to go! See link to restaurant above.

Around Vorden is great for cycling and walking, there is a castle route and its possible to visit a number of them and their gardens, see the link underneath.

Tonden is reachable from Zutphen train station with  the "buurtbus" (local bus) 504.

We are situated within the Dutch cycling routes and there are plenty of public walking paths.

There are two cinemas in Zutphen, the Majestic with four screens and the Luxor filmhuis , an art house cinema which has one screen .  Filmhuis MIMIK is in Deventer and has 4 screens.

This is a link in English about the Achterhoek which we are on the edge of and gives some good ideas
